Mid Sweden University's mathematicians in unique Nordic conference in Iceland
Four researchers from Mid Sweden University – Professor Aurélio Menegon, Associate Professor Andreas Lind and PhD students Benjamin Marim de Moura and Suprokash Hazra recently participated in the Nordic mathematics conference Nordan, which was held in Iceland this year.
Nordan is an annual conference focusing on complex analysis and complex geometry – two special areas in mathematics that are central to research at Mid Sweden University's subject research in mathematics. This year's edition was organized by researchers at the University of Iceland, held in the Icelandic community of Hella and brought together researchers from all over the Nordic region.
"It's actually the only conference in the Nordic region that consistently focuses on complex analysis and geometry. For us at Mid Sweden University, as well as for our colleagues in the region, it is an important meeting place to keep research alive, both scientifically and socially," says Andreas Lind.
Important meeting with other researchers
Prior to the main conference, KAUS – Complex Analysis Without Seniors – a special gathering for doctoral students was also held. This gave Benjamin Marim de Moura and Suprokash Hazra the opportunity to present their research and receive feedback in an environment with other young researchers.
"It is valuable for our doctoral students to be able to practice presenting and discussing their research in an international context," says Andreas Lind.
In addition to the scientific exchange, the social aspects of the conference were also highlighted as an important part of the experience.
"It is often the informal conversations and joint activities that lay the foundation for new collaborations. This year was also an emotional moment when we thanked Professor Ragnar Sigurðsson, who is now retiring. He has had a long and close relationship with many of the participants, not least from his time at the then Mid Sweden University," says Andreas Lind.
