Swedish
The research in Swedish language is profiled towards literacy, both historical literacy and literacy in today's school.
Historical literacy studies everyday writing in Sweden in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in songbooks, diaries and postcards. The research is based on a communication ethnography perspective and the overall questions asked are: How was writing used as a tool in the everyday life of ordinary people? How did the different writing practices intervene in people's social lives? Two examples of ongoing research are the publishing project Kågeträskdagboken and the project Vykortens berättelser om det moderna.
Literacy in today's school is the focus of the two doctoral students associated with the subject. One thesis is aimed at the middle years, while the other is aimed at upper secondary school. Until 2023, the subject's literacy research is reinforced with two guest researchers. The subject's vision is to also develop research in the field of academic literacy with the support of the visiting researchers.
