Data management plan
A data management plan helps you structure how research data will be handled during the course of a project and what will happen to it afterwards. The plan makes it easier to keep track of your data and can also help ensure that the FAIR principles are met.
Write a data management plan – support the entire research process
A data management plan (DMP) is an important tool that helps you plan how research data will be managed, protected, and made accessible — right from the start. Many funders now require a data management plan, and it facilitates your work throughout the project. The plan is also a formal document that must be saved and registered together with other project documentation. It is important to remember that the data management plan is a living document that should be reviewed and updated regularly during the course of the project.
What should a data management plan include?
Content requirements may vary between funders, but common elements include:
- How data is collected and produced
- How research data is documented
- How data is organized and structured
- How data is protected during the project
- How data will be preserved and made accessible after the project
- Any costs related to data management
Use DMPonline
You can easily write your plan using the DMPonline tool. It includes ready-made templates from funders such as the Swedish Research Council. In the tool, you can also receive feedback on your data management plan from Mid Sweden University’s Data Access Unit (DAU).
