Course literature ‑ how it works
As a student at Mid Sweden University, you can borrow and access your course literature via the University Library. Here we explain how it works.
All compulsory course literature is available to borrow or access via the library, either in printed or digital format. However, we cannot guarantee that a book or an e-book will be available to you when you need it; the library only has a limited number of copies. So you need to be prepared to buy some of your course literature. Through the page Show syllabus you can search which literature is included in your course and how it is available via the library.
You search for books and articles you need for your studies in Miun Discovery. For a printed book you will see the shelving location in the libraries, if it is available; you can make a request if all copies are unavailable. For an e-book, you will find a link to click through to the platform where the book can be read. Be prepared to log in with your Miun ID if you are not on campus. If it is an article you are looking for you will get a link directly to the article in full text. Take a look at our video about Miun Discovery
E-books
Many course books are available in digital format via the library, however it is important to know that the number of users who can read the book at the same time is often limited, just like when a printed book is checked out. We buy our e-books from several different suppliers, and the rules for how their books can be used vary. Not all titles are available for libraries to purchase in digital format. Get into the habit of checking the availability of your course literature early in your course so you know what to expect. Licenses vary from only one or three simultaneous users to an unlimited number. When only one user can read, it is usually not possible to download the book either, only to read it online. Course literature for distance students
Distance students can apply to have books delivered to their home address. It is important that you find out how this works and what you commit to in order for it to work smoothly. Read more about loans for distance education students
