"I feel both surprised and honoured to receive this award. Studying political parties is central to understanding democracy. It is particularly important to focus on young people's involvement. I am therefore pleased that research on this is being recognized," says Niklas Bolin, Associate Professor of Political Science at Mid Sweden University.

The award is sponsored by Nordea's Norrland Foundation and the motivation reads, among other things:
Niklas Bolin is a committed and driven researcher with strong development potential, broad and extensive scientific production and a clear interest in making his research accessible and relevant outside academia.

Through his studies and his active participation in the public debate, he contributes to increasing the understanding of how democracy works – both in Sweden and internationally.

"Niklas' work is important for the region's development and also has bearing on issues relating to long-term stability and trust in society, which makes it relevant also for the banking and finance sector," says Carina Bergquist Palm. Chairman of Nordea's Norrland Foundation.

"Together with colleagues, I have in recent years immersed myself in research on political youth associations – an area that has long been relatively unexplored. It is very stimulating to be able to contribute to increasing knowledge about these organizations and their importance for democracy," says Niklas Bolin.

The prize will be awarded at the Academic Ceremony, Friday 10 October 2025.

In addition, doctoral students Louise Östberg and Jenny Eidolf at the Department of Communication, Quality Technology and Information Systems and Douglas Mörth, Department of Arts and Social Sciences, are each awarded a travel grant.
