Mid Sweden University and Sundsvall Municipality sign new four‑year collaboration agreement

Mid Sweden University and Sundsvall Municipality are deepening their research collaboration through new goals and the research project that aims to increase attractiveness for both parties. The initiative will contribute to increased attractiveness, sustainable development and a stronger link between research, education and the municipality's activities. A total of SEK 40 million will be invested in projects during the new agreement period.

"By renewing our collaboration with Sundsvall Municipality, we deepen our joint commitment to knowledge-driven growth and community development. At the same time, the agreement strengthens Mid Sweden University's research environments and creates more opportunities to develop solutions that make a difference for both residents and the business community," says Anders Fällström, Mid Sweden University's Vice-Chancellor. 

Four areas that are prioritized

The collaboration agreement lists four priority areas: Sustainable growth, digital transformation and AI, sustainable and well-functioning societies, and safety and security.

"We continue to strengthen our collaboration with Mid Sweden University. Sundsvall's opportunity to grow is very much linked to the university, which strengthens our attractiveness as a municipality and place. We are also working together to ensure that Sundsvall both gets more campus students, and becomes a better student city," says Niklas Säwén (S), chairman of the municipal board. 

The projects should primarily support the municipality's prioritised development areas and contribute to long-term development in areas with potential for national and international impact.

Sundsvall Municipality and Mid Sweden University have a collaboration agreement for joint development and growth in the municipality since 2014.
