Open Call: Create this year's picture for the Sami People's Day in Staare!
We invite artists, craftsmen, illustrators and visual storytellers in Saepmie to create a new artwork that will become the official image for Saemiej åålmegebiejjie Staaresne 2026!
The image will be able to be used in both printed and digital form – as a poster, social media image and symbol for celebrations around Staare.
We welcome interpretations in all styles and techniques – painting, digital, drawing, crafts, photography, collage or mixed media.
The assignment involves:
To create an image in any technique that can be adapted to poster and digital format.
The work will be used in connection with the celebration of the Sámi People's Day on 6 February, and be disseminated through various organizations, companies and others who want to participate in making the day visible.
A fee is paid (15000 SEK excl. VAT). The artist's name is made visible in all communications. A presentation of the artist will be made in connection with the launch.
Who can apply?
Sámi artists, craftsmen, illustrators and cultural creators active in or outside Saepmie. Both established and new artistic voices are welcome.
How does the application work?
Email us your application no later than January 11, 2026 to museum@gaaltije.se.
The application must include:
- A sketch of your proposal (the sketch should be almost complete).
- A short description of your idea (max 1 page).
- A short presentation of you and your internship (max 200 words).
- 3–5 pictures of previous work.
- Contact information and location.
Decisions will be announced no later than 13 January 2026. The finished work will be delivered by 16 January 2026.
Organizers and selection jury for 2026
The selection is made by a jury with representatives from Gaaltije Saemien Museume, Gaskeuniversiteete – Mid Sweden University, Staaren tjïelte – Östersund municipality and the Church of Sweden (Östersund parish).
About the Sami People's Day in Staare
On 6 February, Sámi People's Day is celebrated around Staare with a cultural programme and fellowship for all ages. The programme will be published on gaaltije.se
