Five Olympic medals for our students and alumni
Eleven of our Sports Academy students and alumni competed in the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina. When the competitions ended on Sunday, it was clear that six of them had reached the podium – with a total of five medals as a result.
Mid Sweden University's grand Olympic winner was cross-country skier Jonna Sundling, who previously studied economics with us and left Italy with no less than three medals. She won gold in the sprint relay with Maja Dahlqvist, silver in the individual sprint and silver in the relay 4x7.5 km together with Linn Svahn, Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson.
Alumni Linn Gestblom and Hanna Öberg made up half of the team that won silver in the women's biathlon relay 4x6 km, together with Anna Magnusson and Elvira Öberg.
In the men's biathlon relay 4x7.5 km, our student Sebastian Samuelsson and alumni Viktor Brandt and Jesper Nelin, together with Martin Ponsiluoma, took bronze.
In addition to the students at Mid Sweden University's Sports Academy, a large proportion of Sweden's Olympic team has trained and tested their form at the The Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre (NVC).
