New Vinnova grant for AI‑project together with Volvo Trucks
Mid Sweden University's research group SEE has been granted just over SEK 3 million from Vinnova for a project that will investigate how AI changes roles and ways of working in software development and develop new methodology for large-scale industrial software production.
The project "Decision Aware Human AI Collaboration for Industrial Digital Products" runs from 2026 to 2028 and is led by Sergio Rico with Awais Ahmad and Felix Dobslaw as key researchers. The work is being carried out in close collaboration with Volvo Trucks.
The need for expertise in the field is increasing rapidly – and the SEE Group is in the middle of this transition. The group brings together experts from many countries, including Bangladesh, Brazil, Norway, Spain, Germany and Vietnam.
"We want to build an internationally recognised research environment that links advanced technology with actual needs in companies and society," says Felix Dobslaw, associate professor of computer science and leader of the group.
For Felix Dobslaw, generative AI is above all an enabler where the really big societal gains are expected to come from smart programs with easy and intuitive interfaces where powerful agents and language models work in the background and make the technology almost invisible to the user.
The formation of the SEE group is part of Mid Sweden University's investment in AI, which will be further strengthened when the master's programme AI Transformation starts in 2027. The programme will provide students with tools to support organisations in practical change processes.
"The research within the SEE group will contribute to the success of more AI projects and to the development of modern software becoming both faster and safer. It is an investment in a smarter digital society," says Felix Dobslaw.
