Record number of researchers want to analyse the Swedish election
On September 13, Sweden goes to the polls and the parliamentary election is perhaps hotter than ever, given the domestic political turbulence of the last few weeks. Ten days after the election this autumn, a unique analysis from nearly 120 researchers at more than 20 universities will be released.
"This year's election is taking place in a situation where a changing and uncertain international situation meets a domestic political situation with small margins, parties close to the threshold and several possible government constellations," says Niklas Bolin. Professor of Political Science at DEMICOM, Mid Sweden University.
The Snabbtänkt initiative is led by Mid Sweden University's research centre DEMICOM and this year's election analysis is the third rapid analysis of a Swedish election. With Snabbtänkt 2026, researchers from universities and colleges across the country are mobilized, but some researchers from Norway and Finland are also participating. Together, they deliver fast, sharp and comprehensive analyses of the election year 2026 – from the pulse of the election campaign to the consequences of the election results.
"With Snabbtänkt, we can analyse what really made an impression – not just what was most visible. The great interest among researchers shows the need for in-depth research and how important it is to contribute with research-based perspectives in a time where the pace of both politics and media is high," says Kajsa Falasca, Associate Professor of Media and Communication Studies, DEMICOM, Mid Sweden University.
Already ten days after the election, the free and downloadable Snabbtänkt report is launched; A unique and easily accessible collection of current results, expert analysis and reflections that give decision-makers, media and the public a clear picture of the 2026 election.
The first edition of Snabbtänkt was published ten days after the 2018 election and the second edition was carried out after the 2022 election. In this year's edition, the interest in participating is greater than ever among the country's researchers.
"As before, we analyse voters, parties, the media and key political issues. But an important part of the work is also to be agile and capture what makes this particular choice unique and that is not yet fully visible," says Niklas Bolin.
The final report will be released on https://www.snabbtankt.se/ Wednesday 23 September.
