Master's Programme in Advanced Materials, 120 Credits
The Master’s Programme in Advanced Materials gives you in-depth knowledge of materials science, physics and engineering, with a focus on nanomaterials and sustainable materials for energy applications. You combine theoretical studies with laboratory work, projects and computer simulations, gaining practical experience in developing, producing and characterising advanced materials.
About the programme
During the programme, you will deepen your knowledge of materials science and learn how materials can be developed and tailored for different technical applications. The programme has a particular focus on nanomaterials, sustainable materials and materials for energy-related applications.
You will work both theoretically and practically with materials and technical challenges. Many courses include laboratory work or computer simulations, and teaching takes place through lectures, seminars, projects and laboratory sessions.
Through the programme, you will develop the ability to analyse materials and solve technical problems, both independently and in collaboration with others. You will also gain experience in addressing research and development challenges, preparing you for further studies or careers in areas such as materials development, energy engineering, and other advanced technological fields.
The structure of the teaching
The programme is taught in English. You normally study two parallel courses during each study period, with two study periods in each semester.
Laboratory work is carried out, among other places, in the Materials and Innovation Laboratory (MILAB). The teaching staff are active researchers in materials science, physics and engineering, giving you the opportunity to engage with current research during your studies.
Degree project in research, industry or abroad
The programme concludes with an independent 30-credit degree project. You carry out your degree project under the supervision of a researcher and can choose to work within one of the university’s research areas, together with a company, or at another university in Sweden or abroad.
Entry requirements
Degree of Bachelor/Bachelor of Science in Engineering of at least 180 credits (180 ECTS) in Physics, Engineering Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. In the education at first level, at least 30 credits in Physics and 30 credits in Mathematics shall be included.
Proven language proficiency in English: English level 2/English 6 from Swedish Upper Secondary School (Gymnasium) or the equivalent.
Title of qualification
Teknologie masterexamen med huvudområdet teknisk fysik, translated into Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) with a major in Engineering Physics.
After the programme
The Master’s Programme prepares you for qualified work in materials development, research and technical problem-solving in areas such as high-tech industry and research-intensive companies.
Examples of career roles include researcher, research engineer, materials or product developer, project manager and technical specialist.
The programme can also provide a foundation for doctoral studies in materials science, physics or related engineering fields.
