Aim

The purpose of the independent work is to give the student in-depth knowledge of the research process and to make a contribution in the field of biology, as well as to present the completed work in a scientifically correct manner and place this in a larger scientific context.

Course objectives

After completing the course the student shall be able to:
- make a timeplan for solving a larger task,
- collect, analyze and evaluate scientific data using proven methods in biology,
- assess scientific, societal and ethical aspects relevant to the study,
- communicate obtained results orally and in writing in English,
- identify future research tasks based on one's own work,
- critically review another scientific work.

Content

Scientific work, writing a scientific report, oral presentation and opposition of other scientific work.

Entry requirements

Biology MA, Scientific Project II, 15 credits.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

Tutoring during planning and execution of the independent work. A final seminar where the work is presented orally with feedback from senior researchers.

Examination form

M100: Oral Presentation, 2 Credits
Grade scale: Two-grade scale
Includes oral presentation, in English, of one's own work as well as a review of other scientific work that is carried out either orally or in writing.

R100: Report, 28 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A-F o Fx
Scientific report to be written in English.
