Aim
The course aims to develop and deepen students' ability to critically read and assimilate scientific studies and presentations. It also provides in-depth subject knowledge within the subject area of the selected articles.
Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:
- present and discuss the content of scientific articles and presentations, of various kinds, for example content from empirical studies, review articles, method studies, and discussion articles,
- independently search and select articles relevant to a specific scientific question, and
- make scientific assessments based on relevant literature and presentations.
Content
The course is structured around a series of 6-8 literature seminars, where the student gives 2 presentations and writes a short reflection on the remaining presentations.
Participation in a scientific conference may be included in the course and replace literature seminars. In that case, the student must write short reflections on a selection of the presentations given at the conference.
Entry requirements
Bachelor's degree in Biology, or university studies comprising at least 90 credits in Biology.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
The teaching is based on a number of seminars on selected scientific articles. Parts of the teaching may consist of active conference participation.
