Aim

The aim of the course is to gain insight into the principles of photography in order begin to understand the technical and artistic challenges of photography from initial idea to final image. The purpose is for students to learn how to create and compose photographs through a basic understanding and application of photographic techniques and processes. The course gives students a broad experience of photographic techniques and workflows used by professional photographers in order to compose and edit digital images.

Course objectives

After passing the course students will:
- know the basics of photography
- be able to make exposures for digital photography
- demonstrate basic knowledge of camera technology
- be able to practice the workflow for digital photography
- be able to perform editing of digital photographic images

Content

The course deals with:
- digital exposure techniques and digital workflow
- processing of digital images
- editing digital image files and relevant tools
- presentation of images
- photo technology
- basic lighting

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course will include lectures, seminars and practical assignments.

Examination form

I101: Assignment 1-4, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

I102: Assignment 5, 1.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

I200: Assignment 6, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Unless otherwise specified, all written submissions shall be used using the source system APA-Style.
