Aim
The course aims to develop students' skills in formulating research objectives and research questions, selecting appropriate theories and methods, and reflecting on the scientific theoretical basis for a project. The course also provides an opportunity to identify collaborators, organizations, or cases to work with in the thesis.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Describe and analyze the state of knowledge within the chosen research area.
- Identify current and relevant research problems that can be investigated during the completion of the degree project.
Content
The content depends on the research topic chosen by the student and consists of a study of aspects considered relevant to the research topic in which the student is preparing his/her thesis plan. This includes a review of the state of the art and planning of the work to be carried out during the thesis.
The student will also acquire knowledge of research design, scientific method and various technical approaches to develop his/her thesis.
Entry requirements
Media and Communication Sciences, MA, 75 credits, including Media and Communication Sciences as a research area, 15 credits, Specialization in Media and Communication Sciences as a research area, 15 credits, and Scientific Method, 15 credits.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
The course may be given in English.
The supervisor will guide the student in identifying the most relevant topics and filling any knowledge gaps that may exist. For this purpose, individual working meetings will be held.
At the end of the course, the student will prepare a document, "Research Plan", which includes a description of the problem(s) to be solved, a clarification of the goals and research questions to be achieved, an overview of the research situation, the techniques and methods intended to be used, and the expected results, structured in an activity plan.
