Aim

The purpose of the course is for the student to acquire knowledge of technology and technical methods that contribute to reduced environmental impact and health impact and contribute to more efficient use of natural resources.

Course objectives

After completion of the course the student should be able to:
- explain basic environmental engineering concepts
- explain basic principles to minimize environmental impact supported by environmental engineering applications
- state physical, chemical and biological aspects of water quality.
- explain problems and problem solving linked to basic principles for the flow of soil water and ground water.
- explain methods for sampling, treatment and purification of water, as well as implications thereof.
- explain purification processes of water.
- be able to make relevant human risk assessments of compounds.
- explain management methods for solid waste and hazardous waste.

Content

The course contains the following: ecosystems, hydrology and water quality management, treatment/cleaning of water and wastewater, solid waste treatment (including hazardous waste and nuclear waste) and ionizing radiation.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Examination form

L100: Laboratory - soil and groundwater, 1.0 credits, Written Assignment, 1 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Carried out in groups

T200: Written exam, 6.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
