Aim

The course objective is that the student will obtain knowledge about technology and technical practices that help reduce environmental impact and efficient use of natural resources.

Course objectives

After completion of the course the student should be able to:

- explain basic environmental engineering concepts in renewable energy, air and sound pollution
- explain and make calculations on energy and material flows
- explain basic principles for achieving sustainable development using environmental engineering applications
- use meteorological knowledge to analyze conditions for renewable energy and air quality on a regional scale
- describe methods for cleaning of air air, and apply simpler diffusion models
- explain how sound waves are created, account for noise problems and know basic methods for noise reduction and calculation of sound propagation.

Content

The course provides knowledge about: technology and resources for the extraction of renewable energy, understanding of the factors that influence the propogation of sound and air pollution, methods of minimizing health risks and environmental impact. The course contains material and energy balances, energy resource calculations, renewable energy and its meteorological conditions. Sound propagation and noise management. Air pollution and dispersal models.

The course consists of lectures, project work and seminars.
