Aim

The aim is to increase your knowledge about health equity within work and health from an international perspective. Throughout the course, we will reflect on and discuss what is fair in disability management (DM), occupational health and safety (OHS), and workplace health promotion (WHP).

Course objectives

On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1. give an account of working conditions and occupational health and safety factors in relation to health;
2. describe and assess how the concepts of social determinants of health, intersectionality and fairness relate to workplace health;
3. explain and reflect on similarities and differences between different countries' welfare and disability management systems;
4. describe and assess different disability management systems in relation to stakeholders, fairness as well as equity in health and working life;
5. describe and reflect on differences in the function and implementation of occupational health and safety systems in different countries;
6. describe and assess different occupational health and safety systems in relation to stakeholders, fairness as well as equity in health and working life;
7. compare and reflect upon different conceptualisations and applications of workplace health promotion in different organisational contexts and countries;
8. describe and assess the concept of workplace health promotion in relation to stakeholders, fairness, equity in health, as well as ethical problems at work.

Content

The course is divided into modules, the modules last for two-three weeks. The modules cover theories and concepts related to the course content and learning objectives, disability management, occupational health and safety, and workplace health promotion. Within each module, you as a student will be interactive with international students.
Assignments will be given in each module thru the course where interaction and knowledge exchange of different work and health systems are prominent.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor degree with at least 180 credits, including a degree project of at least 15 credits, or equivalent. Proficiency in English equivalent to English studies at upper secondary school level (high school) in Sweden.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

The course is given in English.
This is an online course on part-time (50 %). We will use a common learning platform which is hosted by University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. You as a student will have asses to video-lectures, discussion forums and lecture notes.
