Aim

The course aims at providing an introduction to politics in the Scandinavian countries, linking Scandinavian politics to the European Union.

Course objectives

after completion of the course the student will:
- Describe the fundamental issues of Scandinavian policy
- Describe the basic empirical findings and research in Scandinavian politics,
- Analyze the contemporary development of Scandinavian politics, based on theories and empirical findings in the field.

Content

The course focuses on Scandinavian modern political history, and the function and organization of the political systems, the political parties and the activities of interest groups. Problems related to realization of democracy and the purposes of welfare state will also be adressed during the course together with European integration and public administration.

Entry requirements

English course 6 from Swedish Upper Secondary School (Gymnasium). This can be proven by for example the following international English tests:
- TOEFL with a minimum score of 575 on a paper based test and not below 4.5 on the TWE
-TOEFL with a minimum score of 90 on internet based test and not below 20 on the TWE
-IELTS Academic Training with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum score on the specific parts of at least 5.5

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

Teaching is carried out in the form of lectures and seminaries.

Examination form

1000: Scandinavian Politics, 7.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Examination will be done through a written examination, a PM assignment, and seminars.
