Mid Sweden University was recently visited by about fifty representatives from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, SGI and SGU – three authorities that work together on issues related to contaminated areas. The purpose of the visit was to take part in current research in innovative and gentle remediation methods.

The Ecochemistry Group in Focus

The initiative for the visit came after the authorities drew attention to the BioRem Fiber project at Mid Sweden University – a research project that combines bioremediation with the reuse of fiber sediments for the production of fuel. The visitors, who were both administrators and experts in environmental remediation, were given an introduction to the work of the ecochemistry group by Professor Erik Hedenström, at the Department of Natural Sciences, Design and Sustainable Development, NDH.

Guided tour of the laboratories

During the day, research in circular economy, food technology and environmental remediation was presented, followed by a tour of the university's laboratory premises.
"It is valuable for us to be able to showcase our research and at the same time have a dialogue with the authorities that can later take the results further in practice," says Erik Hedenström.

The authorities carry out this type of joint meeting every two years, with a particular focus on developments in the treatment of contaminated areas.
