We are a university in Saepmie

Gaskeuniversiteete is the only university located in the Southern Saami area in Sweden. Therefore, we aim to take special responsibility for contributing to the development of Saami research and education.

We want to highlight Saami presence in the region, both historically and in the present, and strengthen knowledge about the Saami society. Through collaboration with Saami organisations and the municipalities, we aim to create education programs with a Saami focus, support skills development, and develop research that is relevant to Saami people and Saepmie.

Our goal is for Gaskeuniversiteete to be a natural actor in global Indigenous research and a driving force in academic decolonization. We want to be a place for Saami knowledge – for the Saami people, for the region, and for the future.
