Date: Novemeber 22, 2004
Time: 10–12 am
Place: Campus Sundsvall, Room E409
Short summary of the thesis
This thesis aimed to explore the associations between food insecurity (FI), socioeconomic position (SEP), hypertension and type 2 diabetes, anxiety and depression among adults. To this end, five studies using a sample of 1,842 household heads were conducted in Maputo City, Mozambique.
The findings revealed significant associations between FI, SEP, hypertension and type 2 diabetes, and anxiety and depression. Socioeconomic position had a significant influence on the relationship between FI and health outcomes. Therefore, addressing household FI and improving the SEP of the most vulnerable groups may be crucial measures in reducing the risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases and poor mental health in Mozambique.
