The Forum for Gender Research invites you to a half-day in Sundsvall on 18 November with lectures, film screenings and conversations on the theme of violence. The focus is particularly on young people's vulnerability – and on drawing attention to men's violence against women.

Hot och våld

The Forum for Gender Research, FGF, at Mid Sweden University arranges a half-day in connection with A week free from violence. The day will be held in room C312 in Sundsvall and includes lectures, presentations and a film screening followed by discussion.

The program includes a lecture on violence in close relationships by Karin Jarnkvist and a lecture on honour-related violence and oppression with a special focus on young people, led by Helén Olsson. The Student Health Service and the young women's shelter Skogsrå talk about their activities and their work to support young people who have been subjected to violence. The day ends with a screening of the film "A Thousand Flowers".

"It is important to draw attention to men's violence against women every day, but this week provides a special opportunity to shed extra light on the issue," says Katja Gillander Gådin, professor of public health sciences and active in FGF.

The day is open to everyone, but especially students are welcome to participate.
"We know that young people are exposed to violence to a greater extent than older people, and it is rarely students who are in focus. That's why it feels extra important to create an arena where the issues are raised and discussed," says Katja Gillander Gådin.

Last year's lectures were recorded in both Sundsvall and Östersund, and according to the plan, they will be made available retrospectively this year as well.

A Week Free from Violence is an annual Swedish campaign week in November that aims to draw attention to and prevent men's violence against women, violence in close relationships and honour-related violence and oppression. It falls on the occasion of Orange Day, 25 November, which is the UN's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls.
