About the thesis
This doctoral thesis presents “Challenges in Pediatric Eye Care Services in Bangladesh” through five interconnected studies. Studies I, II, and III establish the epidemiological baseline and socio-economic barriers to early eye care uptake in rural communities of Bangladesh. Study IV quantifies the hospital-based economic burden of preventable pediatric eye diseases. Finally, Study 5 synthesizes these insights to propose an integrated framework prioritizing task-shifting, community finance, multi-sectoral collaboration, and strengthening health information systems. Collectively, these findings provide an evidence-based roadmap to reduce avoidable pediatric blindness and visual impairment, transforming public health policy into sustainable, community-level multisectoral action.
