Emma Brännlund joined the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in January 2023. She was previously Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at UWE Bristol in the UK.
Emma is an interdisciplinary researcher studying the intersections of international politics and everyday life from feminist, postcolonial, and critical perspectives. Her research interests are insecurity, conflict and militarisation, climate change, South Asia, and crisis preparedness. She is particularly interested in gender and security in Kashmir and has also published on children’s security narratives. Emma has been part of research projects that have been funded by the British Academy, Arts and Humanities Research Council, and the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency (previously MSB).
At Mid Sweden University, Emma is teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Sociology and is the co-programme leader of the BA in Risk- and Crisis Management.
During Spring 2026, Emma is a Visiting Researcher at Department of Asian and North African Studies at Università Ca’ Foscari, Venice.
