Additional working time

For part-time workers, overtime is counted for work that is performed after the employee has worked additional hours up to the amount that is measured for full-time work. Remuneration for additional hours worked is calculated at 1/142 of the full-time equivalent monthly salary. Time in lieu for additional work is calculated as an hour for an hour.

However, additional work may not be extended beyond the amount of time normally considered to be full-time work. Such extra work is counted as overtime. The total ­amount of additional working time and overtime added together may not exceed 150 hours in a single calendar year.

The employer is not allowed to request additional work hours from those who are on partial sick leave, partial statutory leave, or on leave to care for children. Employees in partial retirement may be asked by the employer to do additional work for a maximum of 25 hours per calendar year.

Overtime

Compensation is made financially (overtime pay) or, if the employee prefers, time in lieu (compensatory leave) if the employer assesses that this is can be accommodated according to the needs of the organisation.

Hourly overtime pay is calculated as follows: 

Simple overtime = monthly salary/94

• Simple overtime means overtime work carried out at a time other than what is considered qualified overtime

Qualified overtime = monthly salary/72

• Qualified overtime means overtime work carried out:
  • between 19:00 on Friday and 07:00 on Monday
  • between 19:00 before Epiphany (Trettondag Jul), May Day or Ascension Day and 07:00 the following weekday
  • between 19:00 on Maundy Thursday and 07:00 on Easter Tuesday
  • between 19:00 on the day before Pentecost, Midsummer's Eve, Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve and 07:00 on the following weekday.
  • On other dates, between 22:00 and 06:00

Hourly compensatory leave is calculated as follows:
Simple overtime = number of hours worked x 1.5
Qualified overtime = number of hours worked x 2

A maximum of 150 hours of overtime per year and 50 per month may be approved. Overtime that is compensated with time in lieu does not count towards this overtime ceiling.

Overtime must be reported, including the day, time and task, under Ersättningar/Arvoden ('Compensation/Fees') in Primula.

Overtime for teachers

All of a teacher's duties should fit within their annual working time. Overtime in addition to this total annual working time should normally not occur.

If a special need arises over the course of a year of operation that necessitates going beyond annual working time, adjustments should first be made in the annual working schedule. If such adjustments are not possible, the department head may order overtime up to a maximum of 150 hours per year. On exceptional grounds, more than 150 hours may be used. In such cases, the department head must receive special advance notice from the principal, and the trade union organisation must be informed before a decision is made.
