Healthcare and medicinal products
As an employee, you are entitled to compensation for certain costs related to healthcare and medicinal products according to the General agreement on salaries and benefits, as well as local agreements.
Healthcare
According to local agreements, employees are entitled to full compensation for medical care and treatment within the high-cost threshold. This benefit is taxable.
Medical treatment includes the following:
- Check-ups and treatment provided in the event of illness by a person who is a qualified practitioner of the medical profession in Sweden, and
- who is qualified to issue doctor's certificates (medical opinions) requested by the employer.
- An employee is entitled to full compensation according to the medical care rate for oral surgical procedures performed at a hospital.
- In some cases, an employee may also be entitled to compensation for psychological care (on a doctor's referral to a registered psychologist or registered psychotherapist) up to a maximum of 95 SEK for each visit.
- Costs for physiotherapy treatment are reimbursed by the employer, but only up to a maximum of 60 SEK for each visit, unless the treatment is within the high-cost threshold, in which case the entire amount is reimbursed.
- Healthcare is reimbursed by the employer up to a maximum or 70 SEK for each day of care.
Employees who live abroad are entitled to compensation as shown above, up to a maximum or 1,100 SEK per year.
To receive compensation, register an item in Primula and submit the expenses form together with original receipts to the HR administrator. Receipts must show the name and type of visit.
Medicinal products
Costs for prescription medicinal products that are by law covered by the high-cost threshold are reimbursed by the employer. The receipt must clearly show that it is an out-of-pocket/subsidised payment. It is also possible to request a prescription itemisation from the pharmacy that can be included together with the original receipt.
To receive compensation, register an item in Primula and submit the expenses form together with original receipts to the HR administrator. This benefit is taxable.
Employees who live abroad are entitled to compensation as shown above, up to a maximum of 2,200 SEK per year.
Visits to the doctor
Employees are entitled to receive time off for visiting the doctor, dentist etc. without any deduction to salary in the following situations:
- When visiting a doctor, occupational health services, outpatient care or a maternity clinic, and when donating blood.
- Receiving check-ups or treatment on referral from a dentist or doctor, and in case of serious dental problems.
