Swedish Research Council
The Swedish Research Council (VR) is Sweden’s largest governmental research funding body and supports research of the highest quality within all scientific fields.

Formas
Formas is a government research council for sustainable development. Their areas of activity include the environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning.

Forte
Forte is a government research council and funds basic research and needs-driven research within three main fields: health, working life and welfare.

Swedish Energy Agency
Research on new and renewable energy technologies, smart grids, as well as vehicles and transport fuels of the future receives funding from the Swedish Energy Agency. The research should contribute to fulfilling the climate goals and long-term energy policies, as well as energy related environmental goals.

Vinnova
Vinnova is Sweden’s innovation agency. They help build Sweden's innovation capacity, and fund needs-driven research, thereby contributing to sustainable growth.

The Knowledge Foundation
The Knowledge Foundation funds research and competence development at Sweden’s university colleges and new universities with the purpose of strengthening Sweden’s competitiveness. They provide funding for projects conducted in collaboration with business sector partners. The aim is to build internationally competitive, integrated research and education environments.
NOTE! MIUN has its own internal routines for applications to the Knowledge Foundation. All applications are reviewed internally before being sent to the Knowledge Foundation. Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation
The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW) is the largest private financier of research in Sweden. The Foundation supports long-term, basic research, mainly in the fields of medicine, technology, and the natural sciences.
The Wallenberg Academy Fellow (WAF) supports young researchers and candidates have to be nominated by MIUN. Therefore, an internal selection process takes place prior to the main application. Contact Torbjörn Westerlund with questions about the internal selection process.

Riksbankens jubileumsfond (RJ)
Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ), founded by Sweden's central bank, is an independent foundation with the goal of promoting and supporting research in the humanities and social sciences. Priority is given to research areas in which financing from other sources is limited, to major, long-term research projects, and the foundation also seeks to promote collaboration with international research.

Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF)
The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF), was set up by the Swedish Government in 1994 and funds research in science, technology and medicine. The prioritized areas are: Life Sciences, Life Science Technologies, Materials Sciences & Technologies, Informations-, Communications- & Systems Technologies, Computational Sciences and Applied Mathematics.

STINT
STINT, The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, funds internationalization initiatives at Swedish universities. Individual researchers can apply for postdoctoral fellowships outside of Europe via STINT.

Åforsk
ÅForsk, a private foundation by the company AFRY AB, is aimed at research and development within its main areas: Infrastructure, Sustainability, Materials, Renewable Products, Energy, Processes, Security, and Environment. Research and travel grants are given to students, Ph.D. students and early career researchers.
