Last week, Ismagasinet on campus Sundsvall was filled with creative energy and curiosity when the Art Hub opened its doors. The opening was a success, with around 200 visitors and a queue at the door.

With its activities during the anniversary week, the Art Hub clearly showed how much energy and commitment can be created when art meets science. The event was not only a success on site, but also a reminder of the value of creativity in academic environments – and of how art can bring people together, open minds and stimulate both hearts and brains.

Thoughts and impressions

The Rector began Thursday's opening with a warm speech about the importance of art, how it broadens our perspective and stimulates our creative thinking, and how art not only touches, but also inspires new thoughts in academia as well.

During the exhibition, visitors were able to take part in the artistic expressions of collaborators, in both two- and three-dimensional works. Sculptures, images and installations showed a breadth of techniques and expressions. The works that employees created at the open workshop during the week were also shown. The atmosphere was light-hearted and curious – many visitors stayed for a long time at each work, talking to the artists and discussing their impressions.

Inspiring stories

On Friday, the Art Hub offered lectures that put art in a larger perspective. Professor Roberto Verganti from the School of Economics and the artists Ida Rödén and Håkan Håkki Eriksson, gave interesting, fun and inspiring presentations that aroused many reflections in the audience. Their stories about creative processes, interdisciplinary possibilities and the role of art in a research context gave an extra dimension to the exhibition.

A recurring meeting place

The three employees who make up the art hub's project group, Lena Sjödin Roman, Edith Andresen and Victoria Engholm, are now excited to take the initiative further.
"To see the rooms filled with curiosity, creativity and conversation was absolutely magical. We are so pleased with the start, but above all, we are now looking forward to letting the Art Hub grow and flourish as a recurring meeting place. Here we can explore ideas, develop events in all possible directions and let art and science meet in unexpected ways. The art hub can be both a physical and mental space where creativity can live and inspire," says Lena Sjödin Roman.

The art hub was part of Mid Sweden University's 20th anniversary and has been funded by the Jubilee Fund together with CER.
