Omer has always had an interest in politics and international relations. When the opportunity arose to apply for an internship at the North Sweden European Office in Brussels, he did not hesitate.

"I have long wanted to experience how politics is applied in practice. During the training, I have gained a lot of theoretical knowledge, but here you get to see what happens behind the scenes before decisions are actually made. It has been very eye-opening and exciting," says Omer Ali Mohammed.

Writes and responds for newsletters

The internship extends over the autumn and includes a wide range of tasks. In addition to participating in seminars and network meetings, Omer has already had time to meet MEP Hanna Gedin, and in the future, a meeting with EU Minister Jessika Roswall is also expected.

One of the recurring assignments is to write articles and be responsible for North Sweden's newsletter, which is published every other week. Going forward, Omer hopes that the internship will strengthen his future career opportunities.

"I hope that this merit in my CV, in addition to my degree, will lead to a world filled with diplomacy and international relations," he says.

Aiming for embassy work

The plan after graduating from Mid Sweden University is to study a master's degree in political science, but in the longer term, the goals are even bigger.

"In ten years, I hope to be a high-ranking politician at some Swedish embassy in the Middle East," says Omer.
