Research duo awarded for efforts in the risk and crisis area

Jörgen Sparf, Professor of Sociology and Evangelia Petridou, Associate Professor of Political Science, both active at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Mid Sweden University, receive the Burean Foundation's Scientific Prize 2025.

The Burean Foundation Scientific Prize is awarded to Evangelia Petridou and Jörgen Sparf for their cohesive scientific work to deepen knowledge about agents in policy processes, with a particular focus on crisis preparedness, disaster risk reduction and sustainability. 

For over ten years, they have worked together and collaborated with leading international researchers. Their research has recently culminated in a groundbreaking monograph, Policy Entrepreneurs, Crises, and Policy Change, published by Cambridge University Press (CUP). It is the first monograph in political science and sociology at Mid Sweden University to be published by a university publisher. 

Their cross-disciplinary efforts open up promising areas of development and inspire future scientific progress.

The Burean Association was founded in 1994 with the aim of working to raise the quality of education, in the spring of 2011 the Burean Association donated its capital to Mid Sweden University with the intention of continuing to award scholarships. 

The prize for particularly good scientific achievements is paid by the department and is used by the laureate for costs related to the laureate's research. The scholarship is SEK 20,000 and is divided equally between this year's laureates. 

The prize will be awarded at the Academic Ceremony, Friday 10 October 2025.
