This autumn, the Network for Sustainable Development at Mid Sweden University invites you to a new round of webinar series where researchers present current research and highlight sustainability issues from different perspectives.

hållbarhet, samarbete, team, utveckling

The series starts on October 23 and initially offers two lectures that address both the impact of holiday homes on the climate and society as well as the future challenges of tourism. More lectures may be added later in the autumn.

Sustainable holiday home development in focus

First out in the series is Erik Melin, project manager for the research project SOURCE (Sustainable development of housing for recreational use). On 23 October, he will talk about how the development of holiday homes can take place with greater consideration for nature, climate and local communities. The expansion of holiday home areas often involves a high consumption of resources and affects both the environment and local communities. Within the SOURCE project, knowledge and tools are developed that can help reverse this trend and create a more regenerative development.

"We want to show that it is possible to think innovatively about holiday homes and develop models that benefit both people and the environment," says Erik Melin.

Who will pay for the view?

On 6 November, it is time for Robert Pettersson, Associate Professor of Tourism Studies and Executive Director of the ETOUR research centre, to take part in the webinar series. In his lecture "Tourism and sustainability – Who should pay for the view?", he highlights current research questions on sustainable tourism, including discussions on tourism fees and new travel trends.

In recent years, issues of flight shame, regenerative tourism and changing travel habits have had a major impact. In his lecture, Robert Pettersson takes a look at current research and presents a new project focusing on tourism fees.

"There is an exciting transition underway in tourism where sustainability issues are becoming increasingly important, both for research and for society at large," says Robert Pettersson.
