MFA to be introduced for RemoteApp at external login

Mon 15 Dec 2025 10:29

On Wednesday, 17th of December, multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be enabled for external login to the RemoteApp system. The change applies to all users, both staff and students, and is part of our work to strengthen our cyber security.

What does the change mean?

When you log in to RemoteApp off-campus or via external networks, you will need to confirm your identity via the Microsoft Authenticator app in notification mode from Wednesday. For login from internal network, there will be no change.

What you need to do

  1. Install Microsoft Authenticator on your phone if you haven't already.
  2. Make sure your app is set up in notification mode, so you can approve logins via push notifications.
  3. Starting Wednesday, sign in to RemoteApp with MFA.

Why is MFA being introduced?

MFA is an effective way to protect user accounts and reduce the risk of unauthorized access. The extra step in the login contributes to a more secure digital environment for everyone.
