Students welcomed to campus
With sweets, barbecue sausages, raffles, suggestions for leisure activities and information about where the jobs after graduation are, the students were welcomed to campus in Östersund.
Lisa Hörnqvist from Luleå spins on Friskis & Svetti's wheel of fortune and wins a free try-out day. Perfect for a new student in a new city. She has just started studying at the Master of Science in Business and Economics programme.
"I'm a biathlete and have been to Östersund for camps and competitions, so I know the city a little bit from before, it feels good to be here," she says.
Around 40 exhibition exhibitors are on site on the welcome day to receive the students, including representatives from Mid Sweden University, local and regional employers, municipalities and associations. Fritisdsbanken shows its activities with free lending of leisure products, the Student Union offers barbecue sausages outside the Student House and Folkets Bio recruits new members while raffling off free cinema tickets.
Stefan Olsson is on site and represents Save the Children. The association is based on volunteers and he would like to see more students join.
"We hope that the students see it as an opportunity to make an effort, to do something for a fellow human being," he says.
The welcome day is organized by the Mid Sweden Chamber of Commerce, Mid Sweden University and the student union in Östersund and Sundsvall. On Thursday 4 September it will be held in Sundsvall.
