Welcome to this year's Equal Opportunities Day

Tue 09 Sep 2025 14:50

The theme for this year's Equal Opportunities Day is Equal Opportunities: Then, Now and Forward and also includes a specific session on LGBTQi. The theme is based on current societal changes where the issues of equality, diversity and equality are challenged and politicized in various ways.

On 7/10, it is time for this year's Equal Opportunities Day, at 13.00 – 16.00 in room C326 on campus Sundsvall.

In a Swedish context, issues of equality and gender equality have been relevant since the 1930s and 1960s, so in the first session we briefly look back at how the social changes of that time formed the basis for what we today call equal opportunities work. We then go on to look at the current situation and how we work with discrimination, diversity and gender equality at Mid Sweden University today, and then conclude with a look into the future based on current events in the United States and in Europe, both in society and in the university world. The second session has a similar structure but with a focus on LGBTQi. With this as a background, we end the day with a panel discussion where the focus is on concrete equal opportunities work at Mid Sweden University; How do we work with gender equality, diversity and accessibility in teaching and research?

During the day, a support material will also be launched that describes, among other things, how to address gender equality in education, prevent conflicts in student groups and how to address and deal with racism.

During the day, the winners of this year's Equal Opportunities Prize will also be presented, which during the anniversary year consists of four different prizes. In addition to the regular Equal Opportunities Prize, the University also awards a jubilee prize, and in addition, the Student Unions in Sundsvall and Östersund each award a prize.
