Requesting a Case Number? Help The Registrar's Office with the Right Information
Providing the right information from the start saves time for both you and The Registrar's Office. When requesting a case number, include what the case concerns, who the case officer is, and which part of the University the case belongs to.
When contacting The Registrar's Office to request a new case number, please include:
- what the case concerns, for example what decision is to be made, the title of a research project, the title of a position, what is being procured, or what agreement is to be signed,
- who will be the case officer,
- which department, division, faculty, or equivalent unit the case belongs to.
Providing this information from the start helps ensure that the case is registered correctly and that records can be found, followed up, and reused more easily in the future.
Remember to Register Records Continuously
Records belonging to a case should be submitted for registration as soon as they are received or drawn up. Please do not wait until the case has been completed.
Continuous registration makes it easier to keep track of a case, follow its progress, and locate records when they are needed. It also reduces the risk of important records being overlooked or having to be searched for afterwards.
