Updated template for course rooms in Canvas
Starting with the summer courses of 2026, a new template for Canvas course rooms will be introduced. With template version 3.0, we take another step towards a shared learning environment that is even more inclusive and accessible.
On Monday, 9 February, course room template version 3.0 is launched and can then be requested for courses starting in spring semester 2026.
The new, simplified template is a further development of the previous one, based on feedback from teaching staff and students.
The template is designed to more clearly highlight the teacher’s didactic choices and to create a clearer structure and progression in the course rooms, with a focus on constructive alignment and contextualisation that is, designing the course room with learning objectives in mind and placing course materials in their proper context to further students’ learning.
The updated template will simplify course copying and includes a revised and simplified Home page and Syllabus, clearly distinguishing between their different purposes. In addition, the template Home page features standardized icons checked for accessibility purposes. The icons for Syllabus, Ask the teachers, Examinations, and Support for Students are to be the same across all course rooms. The template is available in both Swedish and English.
We can assist you in applying the new template, even if you have already begun developing your course room for the spring semester.
