Mid Sweden University strengthens the coordination of security work
As security issues become increasingly important, the coordination of the work at Mid Sweden University is now being strengthened. Lars Hägglund will be the new security coordinator and at the same time will take on the role of head of security protection.
Security issues have become increasingly important in society in recent years. This also applies to universities and colleges, where activities must be open and accessible at the same time as the requirements to protect people, information and activities are increasing.
Mid Sweden University already has a security organisation and work that spans several areas – from information security and physical security to crisis management and issues relating to the safety of employees and students. As security issues become more extensive, there is also a need to strengthen support and create a clearer context for the work in different parts of the organization.
"This issue has been investigated for a long time and I am very happy that we now have a solution in place. This gives us better conditions to work more collectively and also more proactively with security issues going forward. Lars has good knowledge of Mid Sweden University, a broad network of contacts in the organization and has worked with issues that in various ways are linked to the various parts of the security work," says University Director Louise Beskow.
The assignment involves contributing to the development of the University's overall security work and providing support in security issues in the organisation. The assignment also includes coordination of work on personal safety.
"To be given the task of working with security feels extremely honorable. It is an important area that is really high on the agenda today. We have many processes in place and many knowledgeable employees, so I am very much looking forward to working with this. It is important to establish a dialogue so that we continue to work on security issues. We will do this in various dialogues, including with our chief safety representatives, but also with the crisis organisation that exists and the security group that is already working, says Lars Hägglund.
According to previous decisions by the Vice-Chancellor, the Security Coordinator also has the role of Head of Protective Security. In this function, the security coordinator is responsible for the university's security protection work.
Lars Hägglund is placed at the Division of Digitalisation and Service (DOS) and will take up the position on 1 April 2026. The assignment covers 50 percent and is valid for two years.
