When Mid Sweden University's Board met on 17 April, four new target areas were established with a view to 2045. In addition, proposals for four-year goals, linked to the new strategy, have been sent out for consultation.

In the vision work, employees, student representatives and external parties have been given the opportunity to contribute, as well as the university management and board. The new vision aims for "Mid Sweden University 2045".

"The process has so far involved over 400 people who have provided various inputs. The management council has then processed them and we have also had a consultation round during the winter. At the last board meeting, the board established four target areas based on the work that has been done since last autumn," says Anders Fällström, Vice-Chancellor.

Here are the four target areas (subheadings in italics):

A university with a strong identity and the courage to go its own way
Open, close and inclusive

A university that is innovative for the future
Proximity between people and disciplines for strong research

A leading university for lifelong learning
Digital excellence for high-quality education

A university with regional and global collaboration for sustainable solutions
The heart of the north and tentacles globally

"The four target areas set out the long-term direction for us and offer very good opportunities for development for the university. In the near future, we will also soon have four-year goals ready, which will be our first steps towards translating our new strategy and vision into concrete action. I am really looking forward to driving this forward together with all employees," says Anna Olofsson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

The target areas have a twenty-year perspective, and based on them, management councils and managers' forums have also developed proposals for four-year goals for the period 2027 - 2030. The starting point is that these goals should be useful for most departments, subjects, divisions, centres and the like. For the four-year goals, proposals for impact goals have also been developed. The proposals for four-year goals have now been sent out for consultation until May 13.

At its meeting in September, the University Board will make the final decision on the vision, target areas and sub-goals.

"Within the framework of the work that is underway, we also want to take advantage of all other wise views. We are working on how to best handle feedback on all input. Of course, our work also includes chiseling out how we can make the decided document with vision and goals come alive and part of our everyday work for a long time to come," says Anders Fällström.
