Students and staff in incident with canoe
Several students and staff at the after-school teacher program were involved in an incident on a lake outside Härnösand on Wednesday. Those involved is taken to safety.
The group of a total of 26 students and staff was at a camp in Aspnäs, outside Härnösand.
During today's activity, canoeing, a storm suddenly blew up, causing two canoes to capsize. The people in the boats managed to get to an island and a skerry respectively, and rescue services were alerted and when they arrived at the scene, both students and staff were helped to the mainland.
"I have received information continuously during the afternoon from staff on site. We are very grateful and relieved that it went as well as it did. Of course, it is overwhelming for the whole group and everyone reacts differently. Some were wet, chilled and even shocked, but given the circumstances they seem to be doing quite well," says Ulrika Danielsson, head of the Department of Education, Psychology and Social Work.
The Student Health Service is involved and is ready if any of the students need to process what has happened. For affected employees, managers and occupational health care are available for any interventions.
Mid Sweden University's security coordinator is in contact with the rescue service.
Please note that previous information that the rescue operation is completed has been corrected.
