How do we welcome our students at the start of the semester?
Many of us are an important part of the welcoming of new students who come to our physical and digital campuses. On this page you can read about activities, information and support that take place centrally.
Please inform your new students!
Welcome letter
The most important thing the student needs to be able to start their studies is in the welcome letter. There must be a date for the start of the course, a link to the schedule, lecture hall or zoom link and more.
It is you as the course or programme coordinator who is responsible for publishing specific information about the course or programme.
The Communications Office (KOM) has system responsibility and is responsible for the overall information in the letters and reminders to teachers.

Digital introduction week
The digital introduction week with student support and the student unions are in their fifth year and are very much appreciated by the students. It is offered the week before the start of the semester. This is because the start week of the semester is usually very hectic. We call it a False Start. This year we offer information sessions about the Library's student support, the Student Health Service, International Opportunities, the Student Union, Introduction to Canvas and Studying with disabilities. The sessions are held i Swedish.
- 24–28 August at 1200–12:30 and 13:00–13:30 via Zoom

Introducing International Students
Arranged by the International Relations Office on 28 August on both campuses During the introduction, the new students will receive information about Sweden and the Swedish study system as well as about the various support functions available to students at Mid Sweden University, such as the Library. The Student Health Service and the Student Union. Both incoming exchange students and international students who are studying one of Mid Sweden University's international programs at bachelor's or advanced level are invited to the introduction, which complements the digital introductory sessions and the Welcome Day, which is arranged for all new students.

Welcome week on campus
New for this year is that we arrange a full welcome week on campus. On the day of the start of the semester, they will receive a short introduction to N109 and F214 with a discussion panel with the Student Union, a teacher, a student and the Student Health Service, followed by a short lecture on Study Techniques. During the rest of the week, they have the opportunity to meet our student support during lunchtime. The aim is to create a safe start to their studies and that they know that help is available. The welcome day is part of the welcome week.
Welcome Day 2.0 – a new concept
For the fourth year in a row, Mid Sweden University and the Central Sweden Chamber of Commerce are holding welcome days within the framework of the Competence Compass project .
The day is arranged for both new and existing students. They get to meet the Student Union as well as representatives from local and regional employers, municipalities and associations. All participants participate with an activity and that means that our campuses will be buzzing with life with basketball, sumo wrestling, golf, table tennis, go-cart races and much more.
- 1 September at 11–14 in Östersund, the student plan
- 3 September at 11–14 in Sundsvall, Åkroken (outside buildings N, M, O)
- Feel free to encourage your students to participate before or after their lectures!

The website for new students
The page to which we refer new students has been redesigned and simplified since last year. This is so that the students can more easily find checklists and other things they need during their first time with us. It is also divided into campus and distance students.
Service Center & IT Support
The service center is usually the first person students come into contact with, on campus or via email and phone. During the period Thursday 27 August–Wednesday 2 September at 10–14, IT support will have extra staffing in the Service Center to be able to help with MiunID, Eduroam and other IT-related matters.
Information email
At admission notices 1 and 2 and two weeks before the start of the semester, the Communications Office sends out information emails to all students with, among other things, links to checklists, welcome letters, welcome days and the digital introduction week. Since last year, there has been a film with our students who give their best tips to new students.
Kick-off weeks with the Student Union
In addition to our own activities centrally and introductory days for individual programs at each department, kick-off weeks are arranged by the Student Unions in Sundsvall and Östersund.
