AI and Academic Writing ‑ Teaching and Learning Seminar for Higher Education
Welcome to a seminar on teaching and learning in higher education on 22 October at 13.00 – 15.00 on the theme "AI and academic writing".
The seminar will be held on October 22 at 13:00 – 15:00 via Zoom.
Generative AI is rapidly changing the conditions for writing, learning and teaching in higher education. What happens to students' writing processes when text can be generated, processed and feedback with the help of AI? And who is the writer when a text emerges in interaction between student, teacher, digital resources and AI?
The lecture is based on an ongoing research project on how AI affects young people's writing and discusses the significance of the results for higher education. Particular attention is paid to the various sub-processes of writing and to questions of distributed authorship: how agency, responsibility and ownership are distributed when several human and technical actors contribute to a text.
We dig into questions about what this development can mean for academic writing, examination and writing as tools for learning and how teaching can be designed so that students develop both writing skills and an independent and critical judgement.
