Sharing too much only takes a few seconds
AI can make work easier, but a quick click may mean sharing sensitive information. Here are some tips on how to use AI thoughtfully and share only what is truly necessary.
You have a document in front of you and you don't have much time. You open an AI tool and ask for a summary. A few seconds later, it's clear – but what did you actually share?
When we use AI, we often think about the results, not the information we give away. At the university, it may be personal data, research material, internal discussions or unpublished results.
Even everyday tasks require thought. If you paste a student's email or entire meeting notes, the AI service gets more information than might be needed. Different services also have different conditions for how the information is handled.
AI can be a valuable support, but make sure to always use the university's approved tools and think before each sharing: does AI really need to get all this information to help me?
Often it is enough to anonymize the text, describe the problem without original material or just share the necessary parts. A few seconds of thought can make a big difference.
Next time you use AI: Stop before you press Enter and check what you are about to share.

Cybersecurity Month
In October, the so-called Cybersecurity Month will be held in Sweden and Europe. Umeå University, Mid Sweden University and Luleå University of Technology have together developed a common approach. The goal is to create good conditions for a strong cybersecurity culture through facts and educational materials.
