In the autumn of 2024, a new evaluation cycle starts, within the collaboration Treklövern and first in a smaller pilot round is Media and Communication Science and Journalism. One of the changes made is that new clusters only start once a year, every autumn.

The Vice-Chancellors, Anders Fällström Mid Sweden University, Peter Aronsson Linnaeus University and Jerker Moodysson Karlstad University, signing a new formal agreement for a continued joint evaluation system within Treklövern. The meeting was held on 16 August at Högberga Gård, Lidingö.

In Treklövern, all the main areas and professional degrees have been evaluated in different clusters between 2016-2023 and now preparations are underway to start cycle number two.

— Revisions of the system have been made on the basis of the lessons learned from cycle one and the evaluation we have undergone by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ), and on the basis of the changes made by UKÄ to its system. The goal has also been to simplify the work for the subjects by making limitations in writing and by reducing the number of evaluation criteria from 7 to 5, where we have taken the impression of UKÄ’s new evaluation criteria, says Håkan Wiklund, Pro Vice-Chancellor. The change to start up new clusters once a year makes the processes clearer for those involved, he says.

For the upcoming cycle, the clusters and the order in which they are proposed, have been consulted by the subject representatives who had to make proposals for changes.

Today 16 August, the rectors of Mid Sweden University, Karlstad University and Linnaeus University signed a new formal agreement for a continued joint evaluation system within Treklövern to strengthen the quality of education. The agreement applies for the period 2023-09-09 to 2032-12-31.

Treklövern – A common evaluation system

Quality in higher education is about a broad focus on the entire education, students’ experiences, and links to working life. Mid Sweden University, Karlstad University and Linnaeus University work together in a model for quality development within the cooperation Treklövern. Programmes with similar content are grouped into clusters and reviewed by peer groups with representatives from the three higher education institutions, subject experts from other higher education institutions, students, and representatives from working life. The background is that the higher education institutions are responsible for shaping their own evaluation systems for the field of quality assurance, which replaces the control previously carried out by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ). Higher education institutions shall be responsible for reviewing most of their education. UKÄ, responsible for thematic evaluations, examines a selection of programmes, conducts examinations, and reviews the universities’ quality work.
