What is EUI?
In Swedish, we are talking about the European University Initiative - EUI - which is part of Erasmus+, i.e. the EU's programme for educational cooperation. The European Universities Initiative is an initiative to get European higher education institutions to work together in alliances - so-called European Universities Alliances. European Universities are interdisciplinary, strategic alliances based on education and collaboration, and which usually have some type of thematic focus with the aim of addressing various societal challenges.
The funding of the European Universities only covers education, not research. There is also a focus on seamless mobility between universities within an alliance - both for students and staff. In total, there are currently 65 European University Alliances in Europe, and in 24 of these, Swedish higher education institutions are represented.
The aim of European Universities is to raise the quality of European higher education and contribute to inclusion and strengthened competitiveness.
