What is Scribe?
Sunet Scribe is a national speech-to-text service from SUNET that is now available to Mid Sweden University employees and to students who write essays at advanced level/degree projects. The service makes it possible to automatically transcribe audio and video material into text, which is particularly useful for interview material, for example. The system has undergone an impact assessment according to GDPR, as well as information classification and risk assessment and has been assessed as safe for use in a research context.  

Sunet Scribe

• Supports multiple languages and has features such as speaker detection and export to various text and subtitle formats
• can be used via a web interface (but also used for subtitles in MiunPlay)
• is secure and reliable, with all processing within SUNET's data centers in Sweden without transfer to external cloud services (approved for research data, even sensitive ones)
• The user has a personal encryption key that guarantees that no one else can access audio or text files
• Transcripts are only stored for 14 days after transcription, with the personal encryption key required to download the file.

Employees

• Go to: https://scribe.sunet.se/
• Click Sign in with SSO (the big blue button).
• Select Mid Sweden University/Miun from the list of higher education institutions.
• Log in with your regular Miun account.

The first time you log in:

• You will not be granted access immediately, as the account needs to be activated first, the activation is done manually and can take up to three business days.
• Once your account is activated, sign in again as above.

On the first real login:

• You will need to create a personal encryption key, which cannot be recovered, so it is important that you save or remember it, otherwise you will have to start over with your transcriptions.

Students

You can use Sunet Scribe if you need to transcribe interview material for:

• an essay at advanced level or
• A degree project with a clear research connection
• where a responsible supervisor is located.

Here's how: 

• Go to: https://scribe.sunet.se/
• Click Sign in with SSO (the big blue button).
• Select Mid Sweden University/Miun from the list of higher education institutions.
• Log in with your regular Miun account.

The first time you log in:
You will not get access directly, as the account first needs to be activated, by sending an email to PUkontakt@miun.se 

In the email, please include the following information:

• your Miun ID
• which institution you study at
• who is your supervisor

Activation is done manually and can take up to three business days.
