Honorary Doctor Ole Henrik Magga is one of the most influential figures in Sámi language research and political leadership, both in Sápmi and internationally. In his inaugural lecture, he will share reflections and experiences from his distinguished professional life.

Ole Henrik Magga is a linguist and former Professor of Finno-Ugric Languages at the University of Oslo and of Sámi Languages at Sámi allaskuvla (the Sámi University of Applied Sciences) in Guovdageaidnu (Kautokeino). As a language scholar, Magga has played a pivotal role in the development and strengthening of the Sámi languages, particularly South Sámi. In recognition of his extensive contributions, he was awarded the Nordic Sámi Language Prize, Gollegiella, in 2022.

In 1989, he became the first President of the Norwegian Sámi Parliament (Sámediggi), helping to lay the foundation for institutional Sámi self-determination. Internationally, Magga has had a significant influence on Indigenous issues, including serving as Chair of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
