VT 2027, Gender Methodologies across the Humanities and Social Sciences, 7,5 credits
The faculty-wide third-cycle course Gender Methodologies across the Humanities and Social Sciences will be offered during the second half of the spring semester 2027.
The course brings together academic expertise across Humanities and Social Sciences subjects at Mid Sweden University. It is a collaboration between academics from the subjects of Comparative Literature, Gender Studies, Sociology, as well as the Forum for Gender Studies. With focus on gender-based perspectives and methodologies, the course’s purpose is to take a pluralistic approach towards identifying intersections uniting different disciplines and thematic threads that can be emphasised for further investigation.
The course proceeds from the principle that, when it comes to understanding different kinds of texts, cultural tropes, as well as social and political events – everything that can be described as ‘narrative’ – gender is not only a theme but an essential lens for the exploration of current and historical topics across a broad range of disciplines. The course is transdisciplinary and through its combination of staff brings both local and international experience and perspective.
Students will be examined in writing, in a way that allows them to apply the methodological principles attached to their learning to their own individual research needs and topics.
The course may be given in English. It is primarily intended for doctoral students admitted to Mid Sweden University, but doctoral students from other universities are welcome subject to availability.
More information about the course will be updated continuously. The course syllabus will be available during the autumn semester 2026. If you have any questions, please contact the course coordinator.
