Student influence
Student influence is an important part of Mid Sweden University’s quality assurance work of the education and study situation. Student influence can be done in several ways. Among other things, student representation in decision-making and preparatory bodies, as well as through course evaluations and other examinations.
Don't hesitate to take part of the education regarding student influence.
Representation
Student unions appoint student representatives. The right to representation in decision-making and preparatory bodies whose activities are important for the education and student’s study situation is regulated in the Higher Education Act but is also set out in Rules of procedure for Mid Sweden University. To be able to participate in meetings with different university bodies, a student representative shall, as far as possible, be given the opportunity to adapt the course of study to be able to exercise student influence.
Student representatives attend decision meetings for the Vice-Chancellor, Head of Administration and Dean. Heads of department can prefer their decisions at the dean’s decision meeting or at the head of administrations decision meeting to ensure student representation.
Decision-making and preparatory bodies exist at several levels. Among other things, there are representatives in:
- the University Board,
- central Councils and Forums
- Boards and committees within the Faculty of Human Sciences
- Boards and committees within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media
- subject college, research college, programme, and industry councils.
Course evaluations and surveys
Course evaluations give you as a student the opportunity to contribute to the University’s quality work in terms of education. Course evaluations are carried out in conjunction with each completed course. The evaluation is anonymous and as a student you have the right to take part of the outcome and any measures decided on based on the course evaluation. Development work is ongoing to develop the student web to make the results available.
Every two years, a student survey is also conducted to students at undergraduate and advanced levels and a questionnaire to doctoral students. The purpose of the surveys is to identify areas of development regarding the study situation. More about course evaluations and surveys can be found in Mid Sweden University’s quality system.
Students’ work environment
All students have the right to a good study and work environment. Mid Sweden University has an overall responsibility for the systematic work environment management and develops routines together with employees, students, and safety representatives to prevent ill health and accidents. The students’ study and work environment are partly followed up in Mid Sweden University’s student survey, which is conducted every two years.
If you as a student experience deficiency in the study environment, you should contact the Student Safety Officer at the Student Union.
At Mid Sweden University’s student health, you can also get advice and tips on how to deal with problems and protect your wellbeing during your studies. The Student Health Service offers individual conversations, lectures, and group activities.
