PhD student in Electronics with focus on medical sensor fusion systems

The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc) is looking for a PhD student in sound imaging systems. The research will be carried out together with partners in a larger project that integrates technology challenges in sensor technology for medical applications.

 

Job description
Independent third-cycle studies encompassing 100% research.

We offer a PhD position in sensor fusion-based technology focused on studying prediction and classification of medical conditions, using deep learning on data from sound, electrical and optical devices. The position is related to collaborating research groups with activities in machine learning, sound analysis and image analysis as well as artificial intelligence. The research is carried out in close collaboration with national and international partners. 

The focus of the position is in the area of classification of sound, electrical and optical data. The service may also include aspects of signal analysis and signal processing. Work can be experimental and theoretical in nature and include data collection, development and verification of models, and generalization of solutions.

 

Entry requirements
General entry requirements include a second-cycle level qualification, or fulfilment of courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits must be at second-cycle level, or the equivalent knowledge gained in some other way in Sweden or abroad. Specific entry requirements include at least 90 credits in the subject of electrical engineering, computer technology or subjects closely related to these, or the equivalent knowledge gained in some other way in Sweden or abroad. 

 

Assessment criteria
In addition to the formal eligibility requirements, the selection will also be based on the relevance of prior knowledge for working with classification, medical classification, deep learning and signal processing, relevance in thesis work, project work, previous publications, courses and interviews with the applicants. Experience in implementing deep learning models for medical classification is seen as an advantage.

 

Personal qualities
Personal qualities such as cooperativeness, initiative and suitability for doctoral studies will be weighed against the formal subject knowledge. A brief description of the applicant's visions and goals must be included in the application.

 

Employment process
Processing of the appointment will comply with the provisions in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance, and will be carried out in accordance with Mid Sweden University’s Employment Procedures

 

Terms of employment
The doctoral studentship position corresponds to four years of full-time studies and is expected to lead to a Degree of Doctor. The entry date is 01-04-2026 or as agreed.

 

Place of employment: Sundsvall

 

Salary: In accordance with Mid Sweden University’s salary scale for doctoral students.
